From obs: "Large avalanche from Feb 3-7 cycle in Pidex Bowl. Large avalanche from the same cycle that ran full track in the main Rip Curl gully. Wind slab released on the steep slope above, 15' tall trees are pushed over, and it ran all the way to the bottom of the run." Photo: N. Hance

Ernest Miller
GNFAC,
I was at Bacon Rind today, we didn’t observe any cracking/collapsing but we were on a skin track most of the time. Good sized settlement cones around trees. This was the first day where I didn’t sink to the ground when stepping out of my skis up high (Boot Pen 30cm), down low this is still the case. The light was a bit flat but I saw some fresh looking crowns in the lookers right trees of Ernest Miller Ridge mid slope where it is a bit steeper. I attached 2 photos but you really have to squint to see the crowns.
Thanks!
Spencer

North Ross Meadows
Skied the meadows above the middle fork of Bracket Creek today and found 145 cm on a NE aspect at about 7600’. The snow from last week had settled down to around 55 cm in total and appeared to be bonding well. No sign of the January surface hoar either, so overall the upper portion of the snowpack was looking pretty good considering the recent bombardment. 25-40 cm of depth hoar is alive and well at the ground though and was reactive in a PST (33/110 (end)). No other signs of instability throughout the day, I was bummed to see the return of the dreaded East wind last night but it thankfully remained calm below the ridge today.
Natural Avalanche Truman Gulch
Observed a group of recent natural avalanches on a NW facing slope into Truman Gulch at about 8600'
West pine creek
Toured into west pine today for a short outing. Got a handful of large and small whomps. Dug a snow pit on a south east aspect at 6800’ I got ectn however I had a log running through the side of my pit so I think that altered my results. I did take my shovel afterwards and did a pull test and the recent storm slab (30”) came off pretty easy.
